Simple Guide in Becoming a Property Manager
Since the position of property manager is quite sensitive in nature, obtaining the proper education is the first step to enter a career in property management. Take up a degree course like business management that masters on real estate properties to any accredited universities and colleges in your community or in the city. Upon receiving your diploma, continue to educate yourself about property management by taking refresher courses every year. However, aside from the learning, you should apply it on the real world by getting experiences and background in the real estate business. Being a real estate agent or a broker is a big step for your career, and it is a good entry-level for the next position before you can be a legitimate property manager. Most companies are accepting candidates for the position if the applicant has broad background in real estate properties.
After gaining experiences, your next step is to acquire certain credentials and licenses. Some states have definite regulations in providing licenses for the aspirants, so you must contact your local state authorities for further details on the requirements. At this time, there are two important credentials for property managers. These are the Accredited Residential Manager or ARM, and the Certified Property Manager or CPM. Of the two credentials, the CPM is the most acknowledged credential. The CPM can be obtained by joining the Institute of Real Estate Management or IREM, of which is also affiliated with the National Association of Realtors or NAR. Once you have joined IREM you need to take up courses to obtain your CPM which mostly deals with ethics and management plans, marketing, and other management subjects. After you received your CPM, you can now legally practice your profession and you have bigger chances to be acquired as a Property Manager in big companies.
