How to Become a Fresh Pasta Manufacturer

Do you want an inexpensive way to make delicious and fresh pasta? Are you a pasta lover and have always wanted to make pasta from scratch? Do you think you can earn from the delicious fresh pasta that you are making?

If you are here then it is a guide on how to become a fresh pasta manufacturer.

Deciding to enter into the fresh pasta-making business is a good way to offer fresh, delicious, textured, and inexpensive pasta. It does not require a lot of equipment as other businesses do. The fresh pasta-making business also does not require a lot of manpower. The real challenge in being a fresh pasta manufacturer is finding the market for it.

Study How to be a Fresh Pasta Manufacturer

The first thing that any potential fresh pasta manufacturer should do is to learn the process of making fresh pasta. Fresh pasta is basically pasta that is made from fresh ingredients and does not have a long shelf life as compared to commercial or dry pasta. Fresh pasta is better than commercial pasta as the fresh pasta manufacturer can tailor the fresh pasta to the needs of the consumer such as the pasta’s specific shapes, sizes, flavors, and colors.

Equipment Needed by a Fresh Pasta Manufacturer

Any fresh pasta manufacturer must be able to possess the necessary equipment in making fresh pasta. Aside from the usual rolling pins, chopping boards, refrigerator, freezer, knives, and flour sifter the fresh pasta manufacturing business requires specific fresh pasta equipment such as a pasta scraper, electric mixer with a dough hook, or food processor, pasta machine, or roller and electric exclusion machine among others. Your projected market determines the number of equipment that you would need. Aside from the equipment, a fresh pasta manufacturer would also have to buy only the best and fresh ingredients.

Marketing the fresh pasta

The main competition of any fresh pasta manufacturer is commercial pasta. It is not advisable for a starting fresh pasta manufacturer that has a limited market of customers to go head to head with the commercial pasta in the supermarket. It would be better to employ marketing strategies to draw in more customers. A fresh pasta manufacturer can do the traditional advertisement of posters and flyers. He can also try and give out samples of pasta dishes with fresh pasta or offer free pasta in community gatherings or meetings. He can try to market the fresh pasta as custom-made for each event that can cater to each of the customer’s needs. The fresh pasta manufacturer can also try and sell the fresh pasta to health stores near the area. Finally, a fresh pasta manufacturer, like any businessman, needs to set his goals and business projections for the fresh pasta manufacturing business so as to know if the business is doing well or not.

My retail business is not profitable enough, I need to also establish a wholesale business. I have started by calling restaurants and visiting with them. They all seem to be very interested but nothing seems to happen. What is the best way to market and catch the attention of the restaurants and local grocery stores?

I have been in food production and food service for over 25 years my parents (retired) are deciding to start a pasta and sauce manufacturing. We have a strong following locally from the restaurants we used to own and I would want them to start on a small scale most definitely. Futuristic speaking I will be the one to make it large with my giant retail contacts and national distribution houses I think I can explode this business. Additionally we have 3 chefs in my family (me, wife and son) that can promote this product. I am looking for fairly priced pasta machines and it does not have to put large quantities of product right now. I will be doing this in Kansas (logistically centered to reach all of US within 2 days)

I am an Italian food technologist with several years of experience in the area of fresh pasta manufacturing and business. I have worked for a few leading Italian pasta companies, and acquired thus know-how in all relevant technical areas, for example, packaging, quality control, product safety and organoleptic assessment. Moreover, I am running my own fresh pasta business, having set up a small lab. For these reasons, my experience is ranging from small-scale operations to large industrial productions. I am also in touch with all key-suppliers of pasta machinery. I live in Italy, but travel frequently abroad. I am available to co-operate for plant start-ups, project developments, quality improvement programs, recipe "fine-tuning" studies, temporary technical management assignments, etc.

Hi. I'm thinking of starting a business in Houston making fresh pasta and incorporating a little italian salumeria. I know there was a place like that here some time ago and was doing very well but it closed. Houston has a multi-ethnic demographic with a big American-Mexican population (not pasta fans). There are multiple europeans also and that gives me some hope the idea might work. Is there any way I can find out before I plunk thousands of $$$ whether it is a viable business? Or is it just the good old entrepreneurial spirit of risking it all hoping to make it? I need some advise. Thank you.
