@Sean; It sounds like MN is a prime startup location for private rehabs accepting commercial insurance. As a realtor, you must have access to residential and commercial office space. To get started research MN's state website re: Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facility Licensure. Each state has its own regulations on the operations of these facilities. If permitted in your state, I recommend starting with a small residential detox. The detox would be managed by an offsite MD qualified to administer detoxification and medications, 24/7 onsite Licensed Vocational Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants to monitor clients and medications per doctor's orders, and a couple of Certified Addiction Counselors to address all of the clinical tasks, such as pre-admission screening, intake and admission, assessment and treatment planning, individual and group counseling, and discharge planning. Ideally, you would promote and refer your clients to an outpatient aftercare program at discharge. For your insurance arrangements as an out-of-network provider, I recommend using a third party agency to handle all of your insurance needs, such as benefits verification, obtaining authorization for treatment, continued stay reviews, and medical billing. Later you can bring this in house after you've stabilized the business. Keep in mind, this arrangement only addresses the entry point of recovery. There are 3 more levels of care that insurance will reimburse and they are extremely important if one is to fully maintain recovery. Detox addresses the physical withdrawal symptoms from substance use, and a full comprehensive residential treatment program focuses on the psychological symptoms and underlying causes of addiction, while outpatient aftercare's goal is relapse prevention and community transition. All levels of care are necessary in succession in order to improve successful outcomes. And unfortunately, those statistics aren't very impressive. Addiction is a serious disease, and if our nation doesn't improve the existing standards of care, it'll get worse having an impact on each of us, whether we admit it or not. We all know someone who's been touched by addiction directly or indirectly. Overdose statistics are soaring higher than we ever expected, and the new generation of addicts arrive to our facilities with co-occurring mental health disorders, history of suicidal thoughts or attempts, not to mention medical conditions that complicate treatment. Yes, we are in desperate need of new higher quality and effective treatment facilities. This is certainly a business, a business of saving lives. If you were in California I could consult. However, I'm not familiar with local and state regulatory standards in MN. That means you need to get to work. There are no college classes in starting a drug and alcohol rehab, only consultants who've experienced the process and a few helpful websites such as SAMHSA and NIDA. You'll find an abundance of information about treatments. Hope this helps and good luck. By the way, the Affordable Care Act requires participating health insurance carriers to cover substance and mental health treatment.

I'm currently just an MSW student working in a public addiction clinic. I am just brainstorming an idea of opening a remote wilderness treatment center. My goal would be to purchase a native allotment in Alaska and build some basic cabins. It would be a small program that would incorporate traditional therapy (CBT, MI, etc.) but would also incorporate exercise, sled dogs, fishing, hiking, wilderness living skills, mindfulness, and even art therapy. I'm thinking with the cabins I could even allow couples to come together and to some family therapy as well. I realize this program wouldn't work for everyone but I believe it would help some people. Right now we force them into treatment, we have limited resources, and as I understand the research with this traditional model most addicts will go through treatment SIX times before having any long term recovery. That's a stat I'd like to see change. We really need some new approaches. I like Phenix multipart because it helps people find purpose and human connections which are two of the most important parts of recovery. I guess I have a lot to learn about the business side of all this.

Good afternoon! My name is Brett Lieberman and I am looking to develop an intensive outpatient center on the Treasure Coast in Florida. I have a facility location which can properly accommodate all that is needed, along with much of the staff to open the facility. What I am looking for is an investor(s) to develop another $175,000 to license the facility (all paperwork is ready to go and can be finalized in a couple days following the investment). Contact me immediately as investment earns 20% equity and invested funds are the first paid back.

We have been thinking about opening up a rehabilitation center for female substance abuse recovery for the last year. I am the Executive Director of a residential center for adolescent females, we have a 25 bed home with 3 kitchens, 9 bath, 3 living rooms etc. We have been in operation as a residential center since 2009. Last year we decided that we were ready for a change from working with CPS juveniles with emotional/behavioral disorders-So now here we are with the whole place empty as we are trying to figure out what route to go. I have my degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling and am eligible to start my supervised licensure hours, but running this place and going to do clinical hours somewhere else is not an option. The owners are behind me to bring us into a new direction and having a rehabilitation facility/in a home-like setting, is my goal. I am clean and sober 9 years and this is my dream to get this place up and running as a rehab/half-way house type place. However, we have searched and tried and cannot find any help as far as where to start. We know how to write grants and all that and have done it for years, but do not know what to do to find grants for this area or how to get it off the ground. Please Help-Both of the owners are doctors and we have had a successful treatment center for girls for nearly 8 years. We are near Houston Texas and our facility is all up to code, finished, and up to all standards for everything-Just need direction and guidance

@Carmie Cantu; I received a request from startupbizhub.com to reply to your question. Unfortunately, I'm unable to locate your post. You can inquire directly to garry@qualityrehabresources.com or depending on the country or state of your inquisition, contact your local or state regulators on Alcohol and Drug Treatment licensing and certification. There should be a website specifically for substance abuse and mental health treatment businesses. Hope this helps. I'm an expert in California code of regulations for rehab centers. Each state will have its own regulations and guidelines to follow in the startup process. Hope this helps.

Hello... I live in El Paso, Texas and would like to open a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. However, I do not have a clue of how to start one. I have just started doing the research and came across this site. My son and his wife are heroine addicts. Last year they wanted to get some help. I looked and called everyone available around and there was not anyone that could help us because they wanted to get clean but was not court ordered so no one would just take them in. I feel there is a great need for a rehab center with other options. Please help. Any guidance is greatly appreciate it. God Bless. Thank you, Alice

I currently work as a nurse at an outpatient facility. There has been a lot of internal conversation about opening a half-way house, but I have suggested there is a strong market for 5-, 7-, 10- day inpatient facility. It is frequently a challenge referring clients to inpatient facilities with limited funding (State funding through Medicaid is usually the only insurance available to them) Funding for the patients wold be a challenge. There is only one other inpatient residential in the area that will take Medical Assistance - they all want private insurance. Some of the other arguments against it are that "permits", zoning, and licensing requirements are prohibitive. We are in Baltimore County, outside Baltimore City and looking at the surrounding areas. Any suggestions on being able to "compare" different towns/cities that might have less restrictions? Would that all be controlled by Baltimore County or are there restrictions levied by both Counties and Cities? I would like to present them with an actual road to success on this, but unsure of what we would need. Ideally, the location wold be in the City of Parkville, Baltimore County Maryland.

I believe something as such is much needed and will prove to be more then helpful to the community as a whole. Initially I want to operate the facility utilizing an out- patient format... then when it proves to b fruitful, adventually get something manifested for an inpatient... Hello, my sister and I want to open an intensive inpatient rehab facility in florida, as well as having a sober living home to transition to after completing treatment. We are still doing a lot of research on licenses needed, comparing other rehabs in the area and what they offer. One of the questions we had and couldn't seem to get an answer was, Can we rent the property that will be used as the facility or do you have to own it? I know it sounds silly but starting off that is what we would want to do until we build a client base and steady income, then purchase our own property once we are up and running successfully.

Hi, I have worked as a nurse for last 20+ and I am now interested in starting a drug rehab for new mothers. You might be asking why new mothers, well, I have this again and again not to forget I worked in a mothers and babies unit in Santa Monica, CA and after birth if baby was born with drugs in their system, they were then taken away by Social Services. So, all these years I have wondered what happens to the new mothers minus baby. It seems there is a gap that needs attention. Where do these mothers go. Are they under court orders to get clean? If so, where, when and how? Help me if you can throw in some guidance how to move forward. I worked at UCLA Neuropsych Hospital, Methadone inpatient and outpatient and have a vast experience in the mental health issues. I have no capital but I am sure I can find a way. HELP PLEASE!! I have worked in the healthcare system and know there is a way to do this!

Okay.. I don't know if anyone really updated this website but I am from Miami, Fl. I've been working with people in treatment for drugs, alcohol, and I was once an addict myself. I'm admitting to being an addict so when I say the word addict I mean person no matter the gender , sex, or nationality, or religion , I don't know if Africa is scammers but I would love to create a business with someone that has the experience and support to invest in my business! I will visit Africa first hand with nothing but a dream to help cure this disease from using .. I'll invest most of the income in supporting treatment centers and more rehab centers there! I'll donate whatever they need and learn more about it first hand and possibly help cure the world from this disease! If you are reading this still and not scrolling I have a lease that's almost up on April..2017 I'm gonna start out with this town house . I know the process it takes because I was a behavior health tech so I started in entry level. I just want to give back to the community and the livelihood of others that want to get clean and live a sober life and listen to their stories and understand their past! And hopefully their future would be to stay clean and look up to me as an inspiration and motivational speaker and someone that is still a recovering addict and attended meetings and was in groups and was very open to speaking up about my story ! Well if anyone is interested in assisting or really supporting my dreams and goals I'll be available whenever and whatever time ! Give me a call 3054677812 or email me at officialboodah@gmail.com and leave your Facebook account name .. no fake profiles or scam seriously! God doesn't like ugly! So if you steal money from someone that is willing to spend there last on something to help give back and really stop this disease and cure it.. I'm gonna start over and not give up because I saved a few lives and I watch some go through working in a center for addicts! So if you are interested please contact me on my direct email address at 1istomany1000isneverenough@gmail.com Bless you all and thank you if this catches your attention!

Hi again, i just reviewed my last post in this page which was at 31st December 2014 and i am back after 3 years but not empty hand i am very much happy to be where i am today. I have started a Drug Treatment Center in Nepal its been a year i am working with 15 Patients with the problem of Drug and Alcohol problems. You can visit our Facebook page as well (NHRCN) its Novo Harm Reduction Community Nepal. As i have to say now is increment of drug addicts in Nepal has raised to 90% in these past 10 years and i am trying to support drug addicts for long term sustainable recovery for that i should have a international support for Skill Development Sectors and Books and Tools as well, Being a social service sector i want to help those people to a productive life as we know 80% of people are relapsed because of unemployment so we should full fill this gap and its a very big sector to work. Through this post i would like to welcome those interested NGO, Treatment Centers and People if any one wants to make investment in this field that we are working or wants to support us through any cases and ways are heartily welcome. Please email us at: sambavchha@gmail.com or call us at +977-01-9860690455.Thank you.

I so badly want to start a rehab in my city in PA. I am a recovered heroin addict (6 years clean) and it is NO thanks to the rehab I went to. There is only 1 good rehab in our area but it is extremely expensive...so the ones who have to rely on insurance or aid from the government are sent to 1 of 3 rehabs...the one I went to and the one my husband went to which were both horrid. We both completed 30 days there and it was dreadful..the staff was awful, they treated us with so much disrespect, there were hardly any one on one meetings, we were cooped up inside 24/7 (except twice a week we went to NA meetings), and we had way too much down time...it was not beneficial and both have low success rates. As a recovered addict I believe I know firsthand what is needed in order for addicts to get clean...what I know is from experience and cannot be learned from any book. People who cant afford the one decent rehab in our area wind up having to go to rehabs that dont even have all the tools to help them! They should have the same opportunities to have a good rehab regardless of ability to pay. It is my passion to help all addicts and I know the only way I can do that is by opening my own rehab center and halfway houses.

I want to start a Drug Rehab in Michigan in a poor neighborhood. i dont have funds to to remodel the building, I do have a building with 36 rooms. I am wondering who pays for drug rehab clients as this is poor neighborhood clients cannot afford. Do state pay some fixed amount /client or I have to look for grants. Who pays for court assigned cases? Thanks
  • Garry Larabee beginner adviser said on October 24, 2017
@M Naeem based on your post, my advise is to contact the state department on Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs. Each state has a department that oversees regulations for rehab businesses. There are government grants to fund programs in low-income areas. First step is to google Michigan Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, Department of Public Health, Department of Health Care Services, or Department of Mental Health Services. When you locate the site you'll find the requirements to open the business and perhaps various government funded programs. Good luck.
