I live a very small town in Massachusetts. I have become very interested in sewing/quilting. I have bought many fabrics online and I'm thinking about selling fabrics online. I've done a small amount of research but I'm not sure where to begin as far as purchasing wholesale fabric. I would like to carry higher end/quality quilting fabrics. Any suggestions on where to start?

Hello! I would like to open my own fabric shop online and I was wondering what I need to do to get my foot in the door. I would love to specialize in upholstery fabric, I have a background in design. I want to concentrate more with modern, retro, vintage, art deco-ish types of upholstery fabric. Who would I contact to buy from? How much does it cost to start up? I really want to do this.

I have owned my own trucking biz for many years. Just one truck and me. Health has me looking for a new avenue. I know nothing about a fabric shop but the wife says we need one in our little town of 5000 with more thousands in neighboring areas. There is as bit of money in this lake community as well as middle and poor. Can you point me in the right direction to research this? She k kws crafts and sewing and I am good at getting things done so it may be a fair idea. What about social media to survey the community interest? Thanks in advance.

@Ric, nice to know that you are exploring new avenues for investing. i will suggest to provide the services using facebook, twitter and Instagram to see how people around you react. This can be ran from home without investing a lot on store setup. Once you get more confidence then think about a strategic location to open your shop.

I am wondering if anyone has tried to run a fabric biz online. I am looking into a second avenue of income as I work construction in South Texas and as everyone knows oil and construction are rather volatile at times. I want to start small maybe sell on Etsy and then get bigger as time and money permits. I am looking for reputable companies for wholesale agreements I already have a business ID in place. Thank you
