Sony Ericsson to Layoff 2000 Workers

Sony Ericsson has recently announced it will lay off 2,000 workers in an effort to keep its finances afloat. Meanwhile, the company did not reveal how many employees in its facilities in North America will be affected.

Few months ago, the mobile phone maker has laid off hundreds of workers in United States.

Sony Ericsson, one of the world’s largest mobile phone makers, has announced it will lay off 2,000 employees in addition to its series of massive workforce reduction few months ago in an effort to keep its finances afloat amid slumping sales due to recession.

Meanwhile, the company did not reveal how many employees in its facilities in North America will be affected. Few months ago, the mobile phone maker has laid off hundreds of workers in United States.

The company said it will further reduce its number of workers until 2010 when the economy is expected to bounce back from the global financial slowdown which has greatly affected most technology companies worldwide.

In a statement, the firm said it will boost its cost-cutting measure that is expected to save up to $520 million this year. To cut its expenses, it has earlier resorted to massive workforce reduction and production cuts.

Previous workforce reduction has already allowed the electronic firm to cut its expenses up to $300 million.

Earlier report said Sony Ericsson has a $387 million net loss in the first quarter of its fiscal year as consumer cut spending on electronic gadgets particularly cell phones.

According to some company officials, they are expecting mobile phone sales will decline by 10 percent this year.
