  • Run ads to hire cosmetologists, manicurists, and massage therapists. Also make sure that you’re checking the licenses and credentials of your contractors. Make copies on your file including non-disclosure agreements and W-9 forms.
  • Research on price listings of competitors for their products and services. You can visit competing spas or get prices from their official websites.
  • Advertise through health magazines, newspaper ads, and radio. You can also distribute a lot of flyers but avoid expensive TV ads for start-up. Just remember to do what your budget can allow you to do.
  • Provide a great customer satisfaction by running a friendly, relaxing, and clean environment. You can even offer a one-stop convenience to customers so they can access all first-rate services at your spa.

It’s highly recommended that you join spa associations and hire experienced therapists only to maintain the quality of your home spa. You can even try out the services yourself before offering it to your clients.

In Chicago as Aestheticians we are used to high quality standards and cleanliness with clean line designs, which unfortunately is lacking here. I've decided to bring that Chicago Spa standards to my home in San Diego CA. I am dedicating a room in my home for my clients using organic and natural product lines. Hi, I am trying to open a home-based business spa, and I have been reading in the City Hall website, that they don't allow beauty parlors or massage therapy businesses from home. So how can I get around this. I want to offer herbal body wraps and facial treatments as well as make-up application. I am certified, and I already have an assistant. But how can I get the licenses if this time of home business is not allowed by Chicago, City Hall? Should I paraphrase it or what to do? Please advise.
