Starting a Furniture Showroom
Furniture is an essential part of life. It is a big business such that it comprises a whole industry in itself. One way you can become a part of this industry is by opening a furniture showroom.
But what type of furniture will you show, you might ask yourself. If you want to know some answers to the questions you have in mind, read our basic guide.
There’s never a room that can go without a piece of furniture on it. Couches, chairs, consoles, tables, and shelves are needed at homes, offices, restaurants and industries. It’s a need, making the furniture business an industry in itself. You can go into the furniture business by manufacturing a line of products or opening a showroom with an investment of between $100,000 to $150,000. If you plan to pursue the latter, here are some tips:
Study the demographics and the market of your target location. How old is the buying part of the population? What is their income level? Is the place rapidly growing, and modernizing? Are there a lot of existing furniture stores, but somehow there is none to serve a particular market? Answering these questions can help you decide on what type of furniture showroom to start.
If the area is in a state of rapid expansion – housing developments and commercial or industrial constructions are erupting – and there is just a few furniture stores to supply the city’s need for fixtures, then a more general type of showroom is ideal. You can sell a wide variety of basic furniture for the house or office. However, if the place is saturated with these kinds of stores and you see that the developments are towards high-end residences, resorts, and restaurants, you are better off specializing on exotic pieces. Or you could specialize on a specific line of furniture, for example, upholstered, antique, made of wood or metal or a special type of wood.
Make a thorough research on an array of manufacturers that will be possibly become your supplier. If you are running a general type of furniture showroom, you’d most probably import items to take advantage of lower cost, just as you would if you are showcasing unique, continental or handcrafted types of furniture. Have a short list from an assortment of furniture exporters you will find on the Net. From there, narrow down your choice to the best one in terms of price and quality.
Choose a good location for your showroom. Location is one factor that has the most influence in the making or breaking of a business. A furniture showroom should be located in an area that is most frequented by its target customers. A showroom of basic and affordable home furniture, for example, should be at a location that the public and the new families frequent. A showroom of high-end items, on the other hand, is better situated in classy malls or along highways towards posh subdivisions.
