The essentials for presentation include preparation, developing presentation, dealing with the nerves on presentation, working with the audience, structuring effective presentations and development as a presenter. Preparation requires practicing of the presentation. This may be accomplished by practicing the presentation to an audience you are familiar or comfortable with. A colleague or a friend will do. When practicing, you should think about your style in the presentation and most importantly the content of your presentation. Ask for the opinion of the audience you practice with.
Also try not to overdo the preparation. Trust in the skills that you have and do not be adventurous in trying out things you are not versed with.

The Presentation

With regards to the style of presentation, the best asset you have is the ones already in your possession. Be yourself. Don’t try to be somebody else. Utilize the gestures you have to your advantage. Add to that the fact that a more effective presentation is one where you put your energy into. Being expressive is also best suited for presentation. Gestures make the presentations easier to understand. On dealing with the nerves on presentation, the number one rule here is be relaxed and have faith in your capabilities as a presenter. The first person that should believe in your capability as a presenter is you. Positive thinking attracts positivity. Don’t forget to breathe.
Breathing relaxes a person. Whenever you feel tensed just take a deep breath.

Dealing with the Audience

On working with the audience, you should establish rapport with the audience. Make them feel that they are challenged, consulted and they will not dose off into the deep slumber that most audience that are bore are fond of doing. In the structuring of the effective presentations, one can never disregard the use of metaphors and analogies. These are vital skills to develop. Metaphors and analogies inspire the imagination and it conveys more than just the literal meaning.

The most important thing to develop when improving your presentation skill is to trust in your capabilities. But if you are uncertain of you capability in delivering a specific presentation, it is not shameful to ask for help from your colleagues or friends. But it is most common than not that a lot of people underrate their presentation skills. Another tip is when you lack the ability to think on your feet, defer the questions till the later part of the presentation or when you are ready to answer them or even after the presentation. Remember that you are in control. Whatever happens during your presentation is never without your consent. Remain on top of things.
