to make this simpler for you all l would like to use Ghana as an example and show you how to start a freight forwarding company in Ghana. there are three basic elements to accomplish and namely legal, financial and operational. legally in Ghana before one starts a forwarding company, there is a legal requirement for one to register the business with the registrar general and here emphasis would be made in specifying that the business intend to do business of customs. after that, one would need a license from customs to operate the business of customs and to obtain that, an additional recommendation from a freight forwarding association would be needed with at least two customs proficiency certificates and then with an application form for the license. operationally, a well fitted standard corporate office would be need and inspected by customs before license be given.
after the issuance of the license, one is expected to do business in the port and hence would need to register with the Ghana Ports and harbor authority for entry permit to the port to transact business of customs. for you to achieve all these, you would need to finance all the above and when you are done, you can now start with your business. it is important to add that the future of the business is its clients and must be prioritized in all decisions.
