Regulations and Laws on Starting Freight Forwarding

Considering that the freight forwarding business is a venture that involves sending and receiving goods from a place to its destination, laws, and regulation of each place should be checked so no troubles can ensue during and after the delivery. It should be understood that each state, for example in the United States, has its own rules on how to treat goods being delivered to its territory. If the goods that are being forwarded are in huge volume there is a possibility that there are tax and regulatory issues that should be looked upon about hassle.

Connection on How to Start a Freight Forwarding Business

There are two layers concerning connection regarding how to start a freight forwarding business. First of this is the connection you have to have so that the moving of goods can be done without trouble to the recipient. It cannot overemphasize that you need a network of connections in every state so that when you move the goods to their destination somebody will take care of them for you. You are just starting up like a freight forwarder and unlike UPS or FedEx that have established its own network by itself, you still have to create a partnership with other companies one way or another.

The second aspect of connection on how to start a freight forwarding business is how you can achieve the first aspect. This is through the help of your state and or your embassy if you are already forwarding abroad. These entities will help you have connections.

Then you need to apply for an FMC License through the Federal Maritime Commission. once the FMC Commission grants you a license to act as a Freight Forwarder, you then need Customers, Exporters & Importers that know you have a forwarding business, that will come to you for RATES & BOOKINGS. You will need a Software program for the Forwarding Industry, you can find that through I.E.S. in NJ. Integrated Export Software.
