To all you people wanting to start a poultry business. Everyone is in different areas, so the operation could differ from location to location. My suggestion to you, is to start with a small coop & chicken lot/run and then get you a few chicks to raise and see how it goes from there. Not only you can realize the costs of chicks & their care, you will be able to realize if chicken farming is for you, it will also give you an estimate to go by, to multiply by the number of chickens you want to raise, to give you a cost estimate for your chicken farm. Before getting the chickens, make sure you are setup for them with housing/food/water. Before you can count on any income from them, you have to put quite a bit of money into them to get them started. It takes approximately 5 months before they will lay their first egg.

I live in West Virginia, (United States) and have been raising chickens for awhile now. I have several breeds ranging from Hertitage Breeds to Rare Breeds to Exotic. I raise them mostly for fun, but I also collect the eggs & butcher excess chickens for meat in my freezer. I would love for a couple other guys to be here that is interested in a small chicken farm. I am presently trading in poultry feeds and supply to many Poultry farms in Bangalore, Karnataka, INDIA. Now I am interest in starting a Commercial Layer farm, starting with 10000 chicks. I also do need to know how to take care of the chick from day old, vaccination to be given, space occupied per chick in each stage, feed consumption per chick per day in all stages (i.e, brooder, grower, layer Stages), mortality rate, any special precaution to be taken, maintenance period at each stage once the chicks are transferred to the next stage, type of sheds to be constructed etc. I want to start the farm on 2 tyre or 3 tyre cage system.
