The first step is to find a suitable land where you can construct a pond with good quality water. Likewise, it is also important to consider the climate when growing yabbie in order to generate good produce. Also, you should be committed to giving your time and effort to grow and manage the yabbie farm. Aside from the above-mentioned factors, there are other factors to consider such as obtaining the necessary licenses and permits. You cannot operate your yabbie farm without the aquaculture permit. Water Quality

As mentioned earlier, the good growth and production of yabbie depend on the water quality. It is essential to maintain good water quality in order to obtain optimum growth. Regular water testing can help in maintaining water quality. You can do it yourself as there are testing kits available in analytical supply stores. The parameters that you should monitor regularly include the water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH levels, water hardness, and alkalinity as well as salinity and turbidity. All those parameters should be in proper balance to avoid problems in growing the yabbie.

Pond Management

Before starting any aquaculture business, see to it that you have plenty and suitable water supply in the location. Some yabbie growers get water from different sources such as soaks, artesian bore water, and water catchment. However, it is not recommended to build dams or ponds directly in the water table. In case that there is a minimal source of water in your area, you can recycle the water as an alternative. You can do it by draining the ponds during harvest and cleaning. On the other hand, ensuring an abundant water supply is necessary especially during summer months when the ponds should be topped up with water. This is important because the water evaporates faster during the summer season.

    I wanted to start my own Yabby farm ,but there is not any room for a pond in my house. Will a Yabby farm work in a 50 by 20cm tank ? When farming yabbies why do people put them into a plastic bottle?
