@Almenta, The first thing you should be looking into is to structure your plan, it is a bit vague at the moment. You could always increase your business as you grow, but try to minimize the amount of items that you want to carry. @Phomolo, well, in my opinion, it is not easy 4 u to find a reasonable supplier about shoes, for many of them set a large MOQ for wholesaling. According to your situation, you had better not buy a large bulk for stock, for when you just start up the business,it is no good for u to stock too many items in your warehouse. However, I can help u to get small MOQ shoes here, just want to know whether you get some pics of the styles you want for my reference.If OK,I will try to offer you a reasonable quote from all manufacturers I know.

@kendra moore, well, it is a really marvelous idea for u to start up ur business so early, but you really have to make enough preparations before this, for example, how to find qualified shoes manufacturers or wholesalers first, which way do u prefer to sell ur items, just a local boutique or an online store,or you want both the way, I know you want to own a local boutique so that you may have more choices to select the items you want to sell, but in my opinion, an online store may be a good method for u to get the fund for ur boutique,what do u think? And I really appreciate to help u with your shoes business

1) So many people are interested in getting into shoe biz,
2) So many people think that they can make money in opening up boutiques,
3) So many people think they have the best designs and all they need is someone to prototype and manufacture for them.
I did not read through all the postings but I would, with all intentions, like to warn you to really do your homework. This is a tough tough tough biz. Check out posting #198 by Brian...many of the points listed there are valid.
If you come to me and ask me to prototype for you, I would first check what brands you have, what credit history you have, what quantities are you going to buy, etc. You know, I am not being discriminative or respectful, but this is the reality of the trade. I have limited resources. If you are buying 1,000 per style. it will cost very high to you, and that is assuming I am willing to prototype for you. Again, this is the reality. I see that many postings are from people in the US. I lived and studied in the US for 15 years and I am familiar with the market. I am actually selling to big chains and importers now. Retail boutiques...I am less familiar with but I can only imagine that their operation is tough and they can't make a lot of money, if at all.
Anyway, I just want to give people here a sense of reality. I know there are people in the US (probably independent agents who claim to have vast connections with factories and have traveled to China frequently) who said they could help you. I wonder really how they can possibly help you if you are only buying MOQ and only have what you think are good designs or ideas. If they are successful, they probably would not need to mind these postings and try to help you worrying about MOQs. Go to some of the international trade shows and talk to the factories there and you will get more reality check. Net net, 99% of you will fail or give up. This is just a cold statistics. I am sorry to say this. Again, I do not want people to waste time and money. But of course, there will be people who will succeed in building up new brands and become successful...but they are the 1% exceptions and they probably work day and night and do a lot of the research and start-up work themselves, traveling to China, facing the factories, etc. They deserve the success. But for the rest, you can't just say "I have some good ideas about shoe designs and I want to open a shoe shop" and then rely on someone else to work the rest. Good luck to everyone.
