@Darren Lee, Hi Darren Lee, I don't think there is much difference between freshwater and sea water shrimp farming. I think Malaysia is more popular for fresh water shrimp farming. Basically shrimp grow well in tropical climate. During the farming process you need to change the water continuously, add nutrients and pesticides to the water.. Start up cost will totally depends on the size of the farm, location and management strategy. The most common problems occur in most of the places are seed supply, disease, and external pollution.

- first of all this business is capital and labor intensive, it needs a lot of money to start one.
- second, shrimp farming is technically hard. you must have the knowledge to prevent failure, a simple advice online will not do it. if you dont have the knowledge then hire somebody to run it for you.
- thirdly, a lot of factors and variables are at play that can spell success or failure in this business. this is not to discourage you people but i write this to prepare you to be successful in this business.God bless.

1. your pond must be easily drained out at harvesting time, if not the quality of your shrimps will be affected post harvest because of the delay in draining the water. check the lowest low tide and base your pond elevation on that.
2. water supply/intakes should be far from the drain gates/canals.
3. water inlets are made on the side of the pond where the prevailing winds comes from. this is to maximize water circulation with the help of the winds and to direct scums and dirt towards the drain gate which should be located at the far end of the direction of the prevailing wind in your area.
4. water depth should be around 1.2 to 1.5 meters.
5. water pumps size and capacity depends on the size of the farm. the bigger the farm the bigger the pumps too.
6. in areas that have power/electrical stoppages, generator set is a must. this to ensure your stocks dont die when power outages occur because aerators and paddlewheels are dependent on electricity.
7. aerators and paddlewheels for adding oxygen in the water. usually it is 2-4 paddlewheels for a ton of shrimp but it depends on the area or the quality of water.
i will be adding more suggestions.

- I think it is an ideal place as the land is adjacent to see
- The land is for the government but I can rent it with a very low price as it is an argylesland(salty, impermeable and nothing can grow inside)
- The land is hundreds of hectares so any extension for the future is available
- government highly encourages project in this area to create jobs:
Assuming I prepared all necessary paper to start the project I would like to know the kind of material I should have or what I should prepare as infrastructure to understand my capability for a small farmer ( 02 hectares). Many thanks in advance for your advice
