@mathew cheruiyot, Good day. starting local chicken could be as easy as ABC alphabet because they have strong resistance to diseases. you can start on a free range system or semi-free range or intensive system or method at a ration of 10 hen to 1 cock and having a nest they will be laying and providing feed for them like corn sharf , corn, or balance ration for them and you will still have good results but you will need to have 2 housing for them say by 12 by 12 standard room for them, after, the hen have hatched their eggs say 2 or 3 days you collect them and provide brooding for them, though, you will need to give them medication and vaccination, plus given them chick's mash ration. etc, blah blah blah, you are on your road to farming without stress.

@JAMES, Good day- good to hear you are planning to start egg producing birds of which all you need to do first is to contact any of your local veterinary store/shop for details on the cost of day old chicks if you are starting from day old and also ask for the cost of the point of laying birds and as well, asked of the cost of feed and medications and vaccinations, if i can have those data, then you can have a clue of relevant cost for the production but if their is good and reliable farms that sell point of lay birds, i will advice to start from there before going into day old rearing yourself.

@nura, good day - good, you will need to contact your local veterinary farm store or shops on the cost of day old chicks if your are willing to start rearing them yourself or you ask point of lay to avoid the risk of rearing the day old though if their is no reliable source for an healthy point of lay, is not advisable to venture into buying point of lay of which i would rather advice to start from day old chicks of which any nearby veterinary store can give you advice on reliable hatcheries like in Nigeria we have many hatcheries and they have their various peculiarities.

@winnie Banura, Good day - the cost of putting up your pen house will depend on cost of raw materials in your country. the raw - material you will need is asbestos celate, blocks either 6inches or 9inches size, bags of cements, sharp and soft sand, gravel, 2x4x12 plank, 2x3x12 planks and 2x2x12 planks, facing board plank, nails and abestors nails. American fence wire and wire mesh, if you can get cost of the above mention raw-materials i can still be of help and beside you will also have to tell me the capacity of the broilers you intend starting with. thanks
