USDA Farm Loan Programs

If you want to own a farm, you can turn to USDA farm loan programs in case you need funding. It can be hard to start a farm from scratch because there are so many expenses that you need to attend to.

With the appropriate loan program, you can already start a farm without having any problems with regards to funding.

Loan Opportunities

If you’re planning to start your own farm, you may want to secure one of the USDA farm loan programs. New farmers can receive loans as long as they are qualified. As you can see, it can be difficult to secure loans especially if you’re a beginner. You can consult the FSA or Farm Service Agency because it might be able to help you in securing the needed loan. If you need credit, you can count on FSA. Congress provides the needed funds to the FSA and in turn, the agency approves loans of qualified farmers. You will need to apply for the loan on time because after September 1 (every year), the loans will now be offered to non-beginners.

Qualifications

Commercial lenders also offer guaranteed loans but if you secure the USDA loan, you can enjoy the low rates because it is already a form of assistance. If you’re not able to secure funding from other lenders or agencies, you can turn to USDA. To qualify, you need to have a farm that is already running for about three years but not over 10 years. You will need to participate in the borrower training given by the agency. The farmland should not be owned by you or if in case you own it, the size should not exceed 30% of the average size of farm in your country. The USDA will also require you to provide labor in the day-to-day operations of the farm as well as in the management. You should have adequate experience and education in managing a farm.

Similar Articles

Since the federal sources are scarce, you will need to make a down payment. The loans are limited and so you must submit an application as soon as the fiscal year of the government begins. The loan should be amortized for about 30 years. You can also avail yourself of the direct farm ownership program or the operating loan assistance. These loan programs are also offered by USDA. If you want to know more about these loan programs, you will simply contact your country’s Department of Agriculture. You can reach them online or you can also send them mail.

The fact remains that a lot of would-be farmers lack the funds for startups. Real estate properties are very expensive these days and depending on the type of farm that you want to establish, you will need to purchase other materials and equipment. Secure the most appropriate loan program now so that you can start with your own dream farm.

I have seen that goat farming could be so rewarding and meaningful to the community I leave in. I would want to know how you can fund my project in this far part of the world. There is enough potential and underutilized land that can be used for the project. Should you want more details, please do not hesitate to contact me or check the website for Uganda Investment Authority.

I have been growing a banana (a variety locally known as Balangon) since last year in a two (2) hectare agricultural land owned by my brother. I noticed that this variety of bananas are well suited in this type of soil as it grows faster. I am from Iloilo, Philippines. I am practicing an organic farming and I don't use any kind of fertilizer and insecticides as well. I am planning to expand my banana plantation project as there is an increase in demand of banana fruits in the market. I have been looking for an organization who could help me finance my proposed expansion of banana farm. I hope USDA could help. Thanks and GOD BLESS.

I have just started a fishing company in Berbera, Red Sea Port of Somaliland. The main aim of this business is to create employment for the young people in somaliland by exploiting the vast and untapped fish and marine resources of Somaliland. I would like the USDA loan program to facilitate loan without any interest rates. This project will have a multiplier effect on the sector.

I live in Baguio City, Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. My father left us 9 hectares of agricultural land which is at present not cultivated except trees. Its near a hydroelectric power plant, Ambuclao dam here in Benguet. I want to start developing it by planting fruit trees, vegetables and other crops needed in the market.Besides the land development, I hope to create jobs for the poor families nearby. I hope USDA will help me obtain a loan for this purpose.Thank you and God bless.

Dear Sir or Madam, I am inquiring about how we can access financial assistance from your organisation to boost our farm project. We have been in operation for three years so far, but it has been difficult since we did not have enough input capital. Recently we registered an organisation under which the farm is operating so that we can legally operate and have access to financial assistance. Please kindly advise, the possibility of accessing the financial assistance

Since this will be our first time as farm owners and will be in need of equipment also, are their loans/grants or any financial help available? Even though this would be our first time as farm owners, I would like to clarify that I have many years of experience of farm managing operations, since I was raised on a farm and my father did an excellent job in teaching us everything related to such. We appreciate your time and suggestions. Please advise, thank you. Mr & Mrs Rodriguez

I am in Kenya. I live on a 100 acre farm. 40 acres has sugarcane and I also have 2 other plantations on leased land. Maintenance is a challenge due to the quality of labour and supervising abilities. Would want to machine operations. With machines in place I would also have them available to be borrowed by smaller scale farmers to maintain better quality plantations thus increase their yields. Needs about US $60,000.
