1. only on land owned by yourself within 100 meters of a river, stream, canal or lake in which there are fish but not with tubewell water.
2. the soil is to be tested for water retention by hammering a 3 inch pipe into the site of the pond & filling it water. the next day the pipe is to be again filled with water & the level in the pipe should not go down by more than 50 % showing that the pond will hold the water. then the soil is to be tested for ORGANIC CARBON, NITROGEN, PHOSPHEROUS, SILT, CLAY, & PH from a lab & shown to the fisheries dept in the area to check if it is OK. after that all advise is to be taken from the fisheries dept & followed fully plus fish seed is also to be taken from them at a nominal price. the pond should be located within 20 meters from your house to prevent theft at night.
3. in the 1st year dig a pond size 20 feet x 200 feet with a sloping depth of 3 feet on one end & 5 feet on the other end. the soil excavated is to be made into a bund on the edges of the pond about 2 feet high & 5 feet wide on which vegetables will be grown all the year round without any watering due to the seepage from the pond water. bamboo poles are to be fixed on the pond as explained by your fisheries dept. the feed for the fish will be 25 kilos daily of cow excreta plus cow urine from 2-3 cows kept on a slight slope to push it into the pond easily plus rice husk & oil cake.
4. the fish will grow in 8 months to a full size & can be harvested weekly with a net from one end a little at a time. the fisheries dept official must be brought to visit every 3 months to check & advise to prevent disease to the fish.
5. all that i have written is based on the advise from others plus from the internet.follow only the advice of your fisheries dept.
