    Hello, I live in a very rural portion of Kentucky. I am very interested, obviously there are many costs associated with startup and maintaining a chicken farm. My questions are related to costs. what kind of profit would I be looking at, say per 10,000 chickens?     I am from Colorado and I am planning to visit the Philippines to start a "Gamefowl Farm in Laguna. I research on line and I can start a small capital of 50,000 to 100,000 pesos @ $ 2,400 as a backyard breeder while preparing our 2 hectares farm to transfer all the 30 pullets and cockerel I will acquired from local well known breeders in the Philippines. I will raise all the 30 chickens to lay and hatch the eggs @ 15 eggs/hen per season x 2 seasons @ 900 eggs @ 700 chicks to be safe. The cost of building the farm is @ 100,000 pesos @ $ 2,400 as a start up since we have our caretaker live in the farm.The feed, supplements and medicine will cost @ 20,000 pesos until 500 of them are sold to maintain the farm and recovered all the capital I invest for the farm. The cost of the chicks per month is @ Ph 700 up to Ph 1,000 so if you sell @ 500 @2 months old chicks of your production@ Ph 700,000 you will recover all your investment. The remaining 400 chicks will be raise up to 6 months and sell this for Ph 3,500 up to Ph 5,000 each @ Ph 1.4 million to Ph 2.0 Million pesos to fund your farm and support your family. Preparation of your business plan is a very important, knowledge of selection of your bloodlines, raising the chicken,and sell them as fast as you can.There is a big demand on this gamefowl in the Philippines. Put everything in writing, research the internet where to get the bloodlines, and the rest is history. There is academy for gamefowl breeder in Manila and Cavite for Ph 15,000 If you are new, I recommend to go to the Academy or just learn on line and then ask advice in your area where you will buy the chicks some info what to do.     @Naikyo, ikyo, buy a thermometer and hang it in your brooder house. by that you can effectively control heating. then when its sunny, reduce the heat in the brooder house.

The proposed farm to accommodate two environmentally controlled poultry houses, each with measurement of 400’x45’ equipped with two tier cage, evaporative cooling system, providing tunnel ventilation with mechanized automatic feeding and nipple drinking system, environment controls, and other required accessories to maintain conducive environment in the house.     I have been requested to put a team of experts together to work on a project in Nigeria relating to revitalizing and commercializing the poultry and dairy industries of one of the southern states of Nigeria. I am looking for a specialist in the 2 areas or 1 specialist in each of the 2 areas of Poultry and Dairy to join our team. The team will make a site visit to the area for initial assessment and dialogue with key govt. officials of the state in terms of feasibility, strategies and logistics. I want to resign from my present job and face this business squarely, is it advisable and i intend expanding more. I have land that can contain maximally 5000 birds. Please, advise is a wise decision to resign and face this business since my attention is most needed. Pls your urgent reply to this is required.

    @balakrishnan, to start a broiler farm with 5000 capacity you will require to build a broiler house with 5000 sq feet and a servant quarter. also you will require working capital for chicks , feed , medicine , bedding, electricity, labour , transport and overheads.

    @jagtesh, farm size be decided on the local market  and land area. broiler house should be located in a restricted zone from public . there should be no water logging in the broiler house area.

    @AKASH CHAVHAN, for a broiler farm of 6000 birds the working capital requirement will be 8 lac rs. and construction of a broiler house of the size 6000 sq ft will be necessary. also i would suggest you start a processing unit  to slaughter birds at your farm site . this will increase the profit margin for you

    @Puran Singh Rawat, starting a poultry farm will require your understanding of market in the area. also in order to start a poultry farm of less than or upto 4000 birds you will require to slaughter birds at your farm in that manner you will have a better price for your product.

    @jagannath sahu, the working capital requirement of a 10,000 birds farm is 1.4 million rupees. also 1 acre land will be necessary for the poultry farm. building requirement is 10,000 sq ft for this capacity. thank you

    @Pramod Badiger, you can have 10,000 birds in 1 acre of land. farm size will depend on on the market demand , whatever capacity you build for farm go in for  ' ALL IN ALL OUT ' farming.  in this full farm capacity chicks will arrive on farm at a single time and they will be reared and sold as a single batch at the end.
